The Prophecy of Osiris
The story begins in the time of Osiris, the god of the afterlife, who ruled over Egypt with wisdom and benevolence. It was foretold that a great darkness would attempt to swallow the light of Ra, the sun god, bringing chaos and destruction to the world. To prevent this, Osiris summoned Abtu from the depths of the Nile.
“Abtu,” Osiris spoke with a voice that echoed through the waters, “you are the symbol of life and regeneration. I bestow upon you the sacred duty to protect the barque of Ra as it travels through the underworld each night. Guard it against the serpent of chaos, Apep, and ensure the sun rises again each day.”
Abtu, with scales that shimmered like precious gems, bowed its head. “I shall fulfill this duty with all my strength, my lord,” it replied, its voice a melodic whisper in the water.
The Journey Through the Underworld
Each night, as the sun set and darkness spread its cloak over the land, Abtu swam beside Ra’s golden barque, which glided silently through the murky waters of the underworld. The barque carried Ra, his divine light illuminating the path ahead, and the spirits of those who had passed, seeking their journey to the afterlife.
The underworld was a place of shadows and whispers, where danger lurked in every corner. It was here that Apep, the serpent of chaos, awaited, ready to strike and plunge the world into eternal night. Abtu, ever vigilant, swam with unyielding determination, its eyes piercing through the darkness.
One fateful night, as Ra’s barque approached the treacherous waters where Apep resided, the serpent struck. Its massive, coiling body emerged from the depths, hissing with malevolent fury. “Tonight, the light shall perish, and darkness will reign forever!” Apep roared.

The clash between Abtu and Apep was a sight to behold. The serpent lunged with its deadly fangs, but Abtu was swift, dodging and countering with fierce strikes of its own. The waters churned with the intensity of their battle, illuminated by the radiant light of Ra.
Abtu fought not just with strength but with the hope and prayers of the people of Egypt, who depended on the Nile’s waters and the rising sun for their survival. Each time Apep’s fangs came close, Abtu would recall the faces of the children playing by the riverbanks, the farmers tending their crops, and the priests offering prayers at the temples.
With a final, powerful thrust, Abtu struck Apep’s heart, the serpent’s roar of defeat echoing through the underworld. The creature of chaos was banished back into the depths, and the waters calmed. The barque of Ra continued its journey, unimpeded, towards the horizon where the dawn awaited.

As the first light of dawn touched the skies of Egypt, the people awoke to a new day, unaware of the peril that had been averted in the depths of the underworld. The sun rose, casting its golden rays over the land, bringing warmth and life.
Ra, standing at the helm of his barque, looked down at Abtu with gratitude. “You have done well, brave Abtu. The light has triumphed once more, and for this, you shall be honored among the gods and the people.”
Abtu, weary but triumphant, swam back to the Nile, its sacred waters welcoming the guardian home. The people of Egypt, guided by the wisdom of their priests, offered their thanks to Abtu, the silent protector whose courage ensured the continuance of their world.
